The Ghana Police Service has imposed a temporary three-day restriction on the movement and operation of transit concrete mixer trucks on roads in Accra and Tema over concerns about concrete spillage and road safety.
The restriction took effect on Friday, August 28, 2026, and will remain in force until Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The directive followed a stakeholder engagement led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Thursday, August 27, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat.
The meeting brought together owners and operators of transit concrete mixer trucks to address concerns surrounding road safety compliance, traffic regulations and the increasing spillage of concrete and other materials onto public roads.
Police warn concrete mixer truck operators
During the engagement, authorities raised concerns about the frequent discharge of concrete and construction materials from mixer trucks onto roads in Accra and Tema.
The police said the spillage creates serious hazards for motorists and pedestrians, obstructs traffic and contributes to the deterioration of road surfaces.
Truck operators were therefore directed to ensure that all materials are properly contained during transportation and delivery and that no concrete or related material is discharged onto public roads.
Three-day restriction
According to the Ghana Police Service, the temporary restriction will allow relevant authorities to clear and clean road surfaces affected by accumulated concrete and debris.
Concrete mixer trucks are consequently prohibited from undertaking delivery operations within Accra and Tema during the three-day period.
The police warned that any truck operator found violating the directive will face immediate enforcement action in accordance with the law.
The measure forms part of efforts by the authorities to improve road safety, protect road users and address the environmental and traffic challenges associated with concrete spillage.
Stakeholders meet over road safety
The stakeholder meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks.
The engagement was aimed at finding practical solutions to the challenges associated with the operation of transit mixer trucks and ensuring greater compliance with road safety regulations.
The press release announcing the restriction was signed by the Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi.
