Ghanaian gospel musician Kenneth Ayew Kwegyir, popularly known as Kay Kenneth, is using his faith, dreams and personal experiences as inspiration for a renewed chapter in his gospel music journey, with a mission to draw people closer to God through his songs.
Based in Obuasi and originally from Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region, Kay Kenneth’s musical journey began during childhood and has evolved over the years through his faith, personal experiences and a deep desire to build intimacy with God.
He started performing on stage at about 13 years old, entertaining audiences with popular love songs by Westlife and other R&B artistes.
One of his earliest performance experiences was at Fun World, a programme often held at the popular A.G.A. Club House in Obuasi.
Although he later became actively involved in church music, his passion for music and songwriting continued to develop quietly alongside his academic and personal journey.
From Bible Verses to Songs
Kay Kenneth’s songwriting journey began at a young age when he started transforming Psalms and Bible memory verses into songs.
His creativity developed further during his Senior High School years and continued through his university education.
For him, songwriting is closely connected to his walk with God and his personal experiences. His songs are often born from a desire to draw closer to God while communicating messages of faith, hope, surrender and devotion.
His creative process varies. Sometimes melodies and rhythms come to him through dreams, with the lyrics developing later during the day. At other times, the lyrics come first before the melody follows.
Whenever a melody comes to him, he quickly records it on his phone to preserve the idea before developing the lyrics and completing the song.
Beginning His Recording Journey
Kay Kenneth recorded his first three complete songs in 2017 while in his third year at university.

His official release journey began in 2019 with the song “Faithful God,” followed by “You Are My God” in 2020.
Later that same year, he released an audio EP titled “I Give My All,” a project that reflected his heart of surrender and devotion to God.
His musical journey, however, became inconsistent for a period due to personal challenges.
Despite the setback, Kay Kenneth is now returning with renewed purpose and a strong determination to continue what he believes is the work God has entrusted to him.
A New Chapter in Gospel Music
As he begins this new chapter, Kay Kenneth plans to reintroduce his music to audiences through visual productions of songs from his “I Give My All” EP.
He believes the songs still carry powerful messages capable of impacting lives and pointing people towards God. He also believes presenting the songs visually can give their messages a fresh and wider reach.
For Kay Kenneth, music is more than artistic expression or entertainment. It is an extension of his faith, testimony and relationship with God.
His journey reflects how faith, dreams and everyday life experiences can come together to shape a musician’s creative expression and purpose.
At the centre of his musical mission is a desire to deliver God’s message to His people through music, with Jesus Christ at the heart of his work.
With this renewed commitment, Kay Kenneth hopes his music will inspire hearts, strengthen faith and ultimately encourage people to seek a deeper relationship with God.
