A road crash involving a heavily loaded articulated truck has brought traffic to a standstill on the Accra–Kumasi Highway after the vehicle blocked the Birimso Bridge section of the N6 Highway.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, 2026, said the accident has completely obstructed both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound lanes, forcing authorities to implement temporary traffic diversions.

According to the Police, officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) based in Kibi were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate diversion measures.
Effective from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, motorists travelling towards Accra are being redirected through Kibi via Nsutam, while those heading towards Kumasi are being diverted at Apedwa.
The Police have urged motorists and other road users to remain patient and cooperate fully with officers on duty as efforts continue to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.

The cause of the crash has not yet been disclosed, and no casualties have been reported. Further updates are expected as emergency responders work to clear the affected section of the highway.
